Scots - Scots

Scots is a Germanic language closely related to English, but influenced by Norse and Gaelic. In the 15th and 16th centuries, at the time of the Stewart (later written Stuart) monarchs, Scots was the official and commercial language of Scotland. During the 17th century printing in Scots rapidly gave way to English and Scots came to be regarded by some as an English dialect.
