This is the universal commandment. It applies to nations, to people we meet in everyday life, to people less fortunate than ourselves and to all members of our family. It is the basic motivation behind charities. If everyone came to see the truth of this commandment, law and order would be transformed ! The word "love" has a range of meanings in English, but the Greek word used here in the Bible, ἀγάπη agápe means specifically a fond, kind, forgiving, caring love - Christian love. |
