But Thomas, one of the twelve disciples, who was called Didymus (the twin), was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples kept telling him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he replied, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, and put my finger where the nails have been, and put my hand where the spear went into his side, I will never believe." A week later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. "Peace be with you," he said. Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and look at my hands; then reach out your hand and put it in my side. Stop your doubting, and believe!" "My Lord and my God!" Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you've seen me. Blessed are those who haven't seen me but believe." John 20,24-29 |
