The Status of Women in Christianity

The Bible

God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created
them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1,27

God created men and women equal, both in His own image.

The Bible

The experts in the law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been
caught committing adultery. They made her stand in front of them and said
to Jesus, "This woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. The
law of Moses says to stone her to death. What do you say?" They were trying
to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus
stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.

They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up and said, "All right, but let
the one who has never sinned throw the first stone." Then he stooped down
again and wrote in the dust.

When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men, until
only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there. Jesus stood up and said
to her, "Where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one,
Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go now, but leave your
life of sin."

John 8,3-11

It takes a man and a woman to commit adultery, yet the man didn't stand
accused, only the woman. In Jesus' eyes men and women are equal.

[At the Crucifixion] Many women were there watching from a distance. They
had followed Jesus from Galilee and had always supported him. Among
them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and
the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

Matthew 27,55-56

It is often overlooked that Jesus' disciples consisted of both men and women.
