Gallo - galo

Brittany became part of France in 1532 as the result of a royal marriage. Seven years leter, in 1539, Gallo and Breton were replaced by French as the only official language. The Gallo language didn't start as French and become Gallo. Rather, in late Roman times in Gaul the Vulgar Latin of the north used hoc ille for "yes" while the southern region simply used hoc. The northern forms became the Langues d'oïl and the southern forms became the Langues d'oc. French and Gallo both started as Langues d'oïl. Therefore Gallo isn't bad French or a dialect of French - French and Gallo are sister languages, coming from the same parent.
