Hell

Billy Graham

"Once you leave this world you don’t get a second chance"

The Bible

[God said] "I will punish them in proportion to the suffering they
caused."

Jeremiah 25,14

The Bible

[Jesus said] "You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the
narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide
for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is
very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it."

Matthew 7,13-14

The Bible

[John the Baptist said] "The axe lies ready at the root of the trees,
and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into the fire."

Luke 3,9

The Bible

[Jesus said] "That servant who knows his master’s will but does
not get ready or follow his instructions will be beaten with many
blows, but the one who unknowingly does things worthy of
punishment will be beaten with few blows."

Luke 12,47-48

Here Jesus was comparing us to servants who were either
defiant, or simply ignorant, about what they were supposed to
do while the home owner was away. When he came home,
in typical Roman Empire fashion, he punished them according
to how bad they'd been.

When we die and meet our Maker, as everyone will, of whatever
faith, including atheism, we must be prepared to be punished
for all the bad things we did to one another in our lives. Justice
will catch up with us after a lifetime of getting away with things. The
punishments, though, are proportional to how bad we were
and whether we knew what we were doing was wrong. Perhaps
the worst thing about hell is that, like heaven, it is never ending.

Jesus, out of love for us, voluntarily came down from heaven
to take our punishment on our behalf, but on condition that we
believe in Him and endeavour to lead a Christian lifestyle.
The Son of God allowed Himself to be whipped, tormented and
nailed to a wooden cross to die. As a result, when this life is over,
a faithful Christian has the case against them dismissed and goes
straight to heaven to enjoy an eternity of peace and happiness,
thanks to the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf.

The Bible

[Jesus said] "Throw out the worthless servant into the outer darkness
where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Matthew 25,30

The Bible

[Referring to Himself as the King, Jesus said] "He will separate the people one from
another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep
on his right and the goats on his left.

Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, 'Get away from me, you who
are cursed, into the everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his demons. I was
hungry, but you did not give me anything to eat, and I was thirsty, but you did not
give me anything to drink. I was a stranger, but you did not welcome me, and I was
naked, but you did not give me any clothes to wear. I was sick and in jail, but you
did not visit me.'

Then the people will ask, 'Lord, when did we fail to help you when you were hungry
or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in jail?' The King will say to them,
'Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they
seemed, you failed to do it for me.'

Those people will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into
everlasting life. "

Matthew 25,32 & 40-46
