Belgian Flemish - Vlams

While the official language of north west Belgium is Dutch, the traditional dialect is Flemish. In the Middle Ages the Old Low Franconian language evolved into Middle Dutch which in turn developed a northern dialect and a number of southern dialects. Today the northern dialect is called Dutch and the dialects of Flanders are called Flemish.
