Lower Sorbian - dolnoserbski

Until about 900 AD Western Slavonic dialects were spoken across the region to the south and east of Berlin. The dialects to the south gradually became Czech, the dialects in the middle became Upper and Lower Sorbian and those further east became Polish. From then on more and more of the region became populated by German speakers. Sorbian became separated from Czech and Polish with Sorbian becoming a Slavonic language island in a sea of German. To this day Upper and Lower Sorbian display features mid way between Czech and Polish, with Upper Sorbian being more like Czech and Lower Sorbian more like Polish.
