Traditional Dialect of Hampshire
The city of Winchester in Hampshire was originally the capital of the Kingdom of Wessex whose most famous king was Alfred The Great. Old English, or Old West Saxon, would have been the language of the royal court. Over many centuries Old West Saxon has evolved into the dialects of Hampshire, Dorset, Devon and Somerset.
