Turkish - Türkçe

Until 1928 Turkish was written in the Arabic script, which was poorly suited to this non-Semitic language. So, after nearly a thousand years of trying to represent the 8 vowels of Turkish with the 3 of the Arabic script, Turkish went over to the Roman alphabet, modified to reflect the features of the language. As a result, the Turkish alphabet is one of the most phonetic in Europe.

1. erkek kardeş    brother        1. evet    yes        1. Bunun fiyatı ne kadar?    How much is that?
2. kız kardeş    sister        2. hayır    no        2. Nerede ödeyebilirim?    Where do I pay?
3. oğul    son        3. lütfen    please        3. Anla-    To understand

Çünkü Tanrı dünyayı o kadar çok sevdi ki, biricik Oğlunu verdi. Öyle ki, Ona iman edenlerin hiçbiri mahvolmasın, hepsi sonsuz yaşama kavuşsun.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3,16
