Serbian - српски    srpski


Serbian is sometimes written in the Roman alphabet, though Croatian is seldom written in Cyrillic. The Roman alphabet versions of the two languages are fairly similar in spelling, except for such differences as reka (Serbian), rijeka (Croatian), river. The biggest differences between the two languages is the source of their vocabulary. Serbian has tended to borrow international words, while Croatian makes new words from traditional Slavonic roots. Examples include avgust (Serbian), kolovoz (Croatian), August and toalet (Serbian), zahod (Croatian), toilet.
