Lombard - lombárd

Lombard is the language of Lombardy whose biggest city is Milan. It is one of the Gallo-Italic languages which are spoken in northern Italy, the others including Piedmontese, Emiliano-Romagnolo and Ligurian (but not Venetian, which belongs to the Italo-Dalmatian group of languages). Like Italian, Gallo-Italic languages have evolved from Latin. Unlike Italian, they have lost their final vowels except for a, e.g. Lombard vént (wind), Italian vento and they feature the softening of consonants between vowels, e.g. avèrt (open), Italian aperto.
