Hungarian - magyar
The languages Hungarian, Finnish and Estonian belong to the Uralic family of languages, which is quite separate from the Indo-European languages of most of the rest of Europe. While the similarities between Finnish and Estonian are easy to see, those between Finnish and Hungarian are far less obvious. Related pairs include Hungarian víz, Finnish vesi (water), H. jég, F. jää (ice), H. hal, F. kala (fish) and H. vér, F. veri (blood).
