Gascon - gascon

Gascon is the western dialect of the Occitan language spoken across the South of France. Because Basque was the original language of the area, Gascon might be thought of as Occitan spoken with a Basque accent. Traditional Basque lacks the f sound, but it does have an h. Latin words beginning with f- have become words beginning with h- in Gascon, presumably due to the local people having difficulty pronouncing the f-.
