Alsace German - Elsässisch

The German dialect spoken in Alsace, France, is closely related to the dialects of German spoken in Switzerland and in Baden in Germany. These are Alemannic dialects, while Standard German is closest to the Upper Saxon dialects. In Alsace, the German dialect is in competition with French rather than with German, unlike on the German side of the Rhine. In Switzerland the Alemannic dialects have much more prestige and don't face much competition from Standard German.
