God fills a space that material things cannot. When you try to stuff your life with 'things', meaning possessions, whether you need them or not, it never seems ENOUGH. You always want to acquire the next must-have object and the next, maybe because everyone else seems to have it, because you can afford it and because you think it will make you happier. You might have so much, yet still feel as if there's a big 'hole' in your life. This 'hole' is actually the need for the God who created our world and created you and me.
Now, riches in themselves are not wrong. Having a comfortable home with some treasured possessions and nice things in it is not wrong. God wants us to enjoy them. It's whether we put these things first in our lives (that is, we 'live for them') that isn't right. We need to believe in God and put Him first, and we should pray for His guidance in every aspect of our living. If we are more concerned with what God requires of us, by our kindness and thoughtfulness, care and compassion, He promises that He will look after us. Romans chapter 10 verse 12 says 'God is the same Lord of all and richly blesses all who call to Him'.
If you feel that you have been too obsessed with 'worldly' things, ask for His forgiveness. He forgives! He loves you! Hebrews chapter 13 verse 5 says 'Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said "I will never leave you, I will never abandon you"'. So, have you got an 'empty space' deep within you? Fill it with God, the Creator of everything! Jeremiah chapter 10 verse 12 says 'The Lord made the earth by His power; by His wisdom He created the world and stretched out the heavens'.
