Two New Testament writers relate Jesus' parable about "the lost sheep". Find them in Matthew chapter 18 verses 12-14 and Luke chapter 15 verses 4-7. People, like sheep, tend to "go astray". They stray from things such as kindness, self-control and honesty. But "there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who do not need to repent" (that is, they have not sinned in this way in this particular instance). Of course, we all need to repent sometimes. And REPENT means "to turn away from", NOT just saying sorry!
We have a Saviour we must believe in, Jesus Christ, who took our sins upon Himself when He was crucified. We must make every EFFORT, each day, to be worthy of Jesus in our thoughtfulness, generosity and moral behaviour. We must accept Him not only as the Son of the one true God and Saviour of the world, but as our PERSONAL Saviour, with whom we can have a real relationship through prayer and praise.
Here are some Scripture verses to help you:
Psalm 51 verses 12-13
"Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your commands, and they will turn back to you".
Psalm 51 verse 17
"My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart".
Acts chapter 3 verse 19
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that He will forgive your sins".
1 Peter chapter 2 verse 25
"You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls".
