Modern technology makes it easy for us to be connected to all sorts of people and places around the globe. Once there was a world without phones, computers, cars, trains, aircraft and television! But people could, just as well as today, be connected to Jesus, the Son of God. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (as it says in Hebrews chapter 13 verse 8). And He's reliable! Prayer connects us to God and He's never too busy to listen.
Jesus said many wonderful things during His time on earth, but one of my favourites is His "Real Vine" claim, in John chapter 15 verses 1 to 10. It's a lovely picture of the Lord. Jesus is the grapevine; His Father is the gardener. We are the branches, made to bear fruit (even if it means being "pruned" and cut back a bit occasionally in order to be made healthier). Bearing fruit means you become the best kind of person - loving, compassionate, patient, honest and self-controlled. If you are not joined to Jesus you are like a branch cut off from the vine. It won't grow any more and just dries up. Jesus tells us to go and bear much fruit and remain in the security of His love...and His promise of everlasting life in heaven. He is the True Vine and the grapes must be sweet, not sour.
1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 17: "But he who joins himself to the Lord becomes spiritually one with Him". 2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 17: "Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come".
