It seems to be common in our world that so many people are proud of doing things which they should be ashamed of. They lie and gossip and cheat, they are greedy, unfaithful and cruel. St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians, chapter 3 verse 19 has a comment.
If you have asked Jesus to come into your life you won't want to do these things, but of course we all fall by the wayside now and then. That's why the Son of God came to earth and died on the Cross. He endured all the SHAME which should be ours. In Hebrews chapter 12 verse 2 we see that the disgrace of being put to death was nothing to Jesus because of the JOY waiting for Him in Heaven. We need to say sorry to Him for our wrongs and try harder in future.
Some people even feel apologetic for being Christians. Hold your head up and say how much you love the Lord! It doesn't matter if ignorant people sneer or laugh. 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 16 tells us to be THANKFUL if we suffer because of our belief in Jesus and His forgiveness. Never be ashamed of Jesus! (And Mark chapter 8 verse 38 is a severe reminder that, if we are, HE could be ashamed of US when He is in glory with His Father).
