ACCEPT that you were born a sinner in God's eyes. We are all descended from Adam and Eve, who sinned. This is told in Genesis chapter 3, verses 1 to 13. You may feel that you're pretty good compared with all the thieves and murderers. You live a decent life. But many, many people of other religions and many atheists live good, honest lives. How good does "good" have to be? God's standards are different from ours - we should aspire to His level rather than make Him fit in with our ideas and ideals. See Romans chapter 3, verses 21 to 24.
BELIEVE that Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, was sent to earth to die and take our sins upon Himself (1st Book of Peter, chapter 2, verse 24). Of course, our human minds aren't able to grasp just how God places our sin on His Son, but - just believe it by faith. (You can't see the wind, or electricity, but you believe in them, don't you?)
CONFESS (i.e. acknowledge) Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. It must be a personal decision, called "being born again". No-one can be born again on your behalf and you mustn't assume it because you were brought up in a Christian home or know bits of the Bible and "believe in God". See Romans chapter 10, verses 9 to 10. Jesus brings you to a special fellowship with God the Father as one of His family. Believe that the risen Christ lives for all eternity in Heaven, so that you can do the same.
Lastly, read John chapter 14, verses 6 to 7: Jesus is the only Way, Truth and Life and we all need Him. Now.
